    Hi all,

I was fortunate to find SMART in November 2012. It has taken a while, but with the help of this forum, the tools of the SMART program, in-person SMART meetings, and a SMART-friendly outpatient treatment program that I started last April, I don't drink today. I truly have no desire to drink today. To the contrary, I have every desire to be present in and experience my life -- a desire that drinking today would completely undermine. Nothing could be clearer to me. So I don't drink.

I haven't posted here in a while, so why post today from a suburb outside of Washington, DC? Apparently we have a little winter weather event on the horizon. This will be my first major snow event here in 20-plus years in which my first preparation priority has not been to stock up on enough booze to lubricate a Russian army division. Instead, I've actually prepared for the storm -- you know, firewood, batteries, water, non-perishable food items, etc. Normal-person stuff. It feels pretty darn good.

So I'm here to tell you that change is possible. It may not come immediately, or completely, but it can and does come with patience, unconditional self-acceptance, and good old-fashioned hard work!

Peace and love to all of you, especially those in very early recovery. You can do it!!!!
