Cigarette-free
I'm very grateful to share that I haven't smoked a cigarette since 9:38pm on November 17th, 2016.
SMART is one of the many things that made this blessing possible.
For the most part I am not going to be counting time for a number of reasons however it is very important to me (and my support team) to have a very specific QUIT date for tobacco.
I never thought I would be able to stop. I would make macabre (and not funny) jokes about being buried with a butt in my mouth.
Every day I go to bed without having smoked I say thanks and feel amazed.
Peace, Morti

I am sorry mjrosen for not responding to your post for so long. I don't even know if you will find this. Your question is what was the biggest thing. The honest answer to that question is a personal relationship with a Living God who actually exists. After that there are a couple dozen things I did. Here is a list: SMART Recovery, therapy, a great support team including my best friend my son and my mom, smoking cessation support groups, drinking cold water or flavored seltzer water instead of smoking, taking a shower, brushing my teeth with a lot of strong tasting toothpaste and really scrubbing the heck out of my tongue as well, hugs and snuggles from humans and animals, exercise, working on the underlying causes IE mental and emotional dysfunction, taking my anti-depressant anti-anxiety and mood stabilizer medication consistently, not consuming alcohol, not smoking crack, eating too much but I do not recommend that but I'm just being honest, constantly reaching out for help via texting message board and phone calls, finding other ways to distract myself and soothe myself and comfort myself, sometimes just getting into bed and taking a nap and sleeping through the urges and the cravings which is called sheet therapy, something that I was not able to do but that is very helpful for people to stop many different addictive behaviors is Horticultural Therapy which is a fancy way of saying playing in the dirt with plants, I used the nicotine patch for the first 3 weeks to help me through the withdrawal.
I still have not had even one Puff. So that is just over 26 months oh Freedom From The Bondage of being a Slave to cigarettes and nicotineLast edited by Morti13; February 3, 2019 at 10:06 PM. Reason: Still cig free

I like the part about the salesman. That's my head. Just keep the salesman at bay and you got it. One day at a time.
